MISCELLANEOUS

Among the most recent doings of S. F. Hayward & Co., of New York, may be chronicled the following: New hose wagons for Rahway, N. J.. and Schenectady, N. Y.—the third within the past few months, Robiuson hose company, of Stapleton (S. I.), Richmond borough. N. Y.—an elaborate specimen—and Relief hose company, of the same place; new hook and ladder trucks for South Manchester, Bradfordordered early in the fall—and Putnam, Conn —the last delighted with its purchase, which has been in service several weeks and is much admired ; chemical engines to Peabody, for the West Peabody fire department, and Lee, Mass., also for Havana Cuba, with a full assortment of fire supplies. The Pittsfield, Mass., fire department has likewise ordered from S. F. Hayward & Co., a complete chemical outfit to place on one of its hose wagons. This will give Pittsfield another combination wagon to supplement the remarkable work already accomplished by the Champion Babcock chemical xvagon which it recently placed in service.

The Miller Smoke Protector company, of Syracuse, N. Y., has furnished the Miller smoke protector to eighty fire departments in the United States and Canada and the Hawaii Islands during the last three months. Among these were the departments of Grand Rapids, Benton Harbor, and Ann rbor, Mich ; Defiance. Fostoria, and Canton, Ohio; Nebraska City and South Omaha. Neb.; St. Paul, Minn.—also its fire patrol—Minneapolis, and Mankato, Minn.; Chippewa Falls, and Btevens Point, Wis.; Decatur. Madison, and Terre Haute, lnd ; Oscaloosa and Cedar Falls, la ; Ottawa Heights La Salle, and Kankakee, Ill.; Dallas,Galveston,and Houston, Tex ; Winfield. Kan ; Halifax, N. S.; besides Honolulu. H. I. The Cudahy Packing company has likewise adopted the Protector, and has had its plants at South Omaha, Sioux City, and Los Angeles Cal., equipped with it. So also have Messrs. Swift & Co., for their plants at South Omaha and Chicago Messrs. Armour & Co., the well known packers, for their plants at Chicago, and South Omaha; and Hammond & Co , of Hammond, lnd., as well as the local fire department of that place.
