We are compelled to tender our readers an apology for the late appearance of the JOURNAL this week. A death in the family of one most deeply interested in the paper, necessitated the closing of our office one day during the week, and our publication is delayed in consequence. We devoutly trust it will be long before a similar reason will interfere with the regular publication of the JOURNAL.
In Brooklyn, cx-Aldcrman Thom has been appointed Fire Marshal in place of Mr. Ready. We don’t know any thing as to the new man’s fitness, but it will be well all around if he turns out to be as efficient an officer as was Fire Marshal Ready.
