AN “Amateur Fireman” sends us a bloodand-thunder story, full of slang and profanity, which, he thinks, the Firemen will like. We do not think so. Firemen are not blackguards, while “Amateur” evidently is, and his story is written for blackguards. To those persons who like this style of thing, this is just the style of thing these persons would like. The JOURNAL has no use for such rubbish.
Now is the time to look out*for fires, and plenty of them. When the heads of families j begin to wrestle with stove-pipes, and to start the fires tor winter, then the daily list of fires 1 is largely increased. Then, too, in the chilly morning air, the Hibernian queen of the kitchen becomes impatient, and uses more kerosene to start the fire with than she does in the summer. From this time till spring the Firemen will be kept busy.
