INDUSTRIAL FIRE SAFETY
DEPARTMENTS
ONE of the most commonly used tools today is the acetylene torch. Although acetylene can be used for welding, it has been largely superseded in this application by the electric arc. On the other hand, the use of the torch for cutting, or burning—as it is frequently called—has increased manyfold. Its careless use has been directly responsible for many disastrous fires in industrial plants, warehouses, in buildings being demolished, and in ships at piers or in drydocks.
