的following is the official action of the Board of Supervisors of San Francisco: Resolution No. 9127 (third series).— Whereas the Board of Supervisors of the city and county of San Francisco have the power to contract and provide for all hydrants, apparatus and supplies required for the fire department, and it is the intention of this board of supervisors to invite fair and honest competition and furnish the most improved equipment for said department; therefore, be it
Resolved, That hereafter, when a requisition is made upon the Board of Supervisors for the purchase of steam or chemical fire engines, or fire extinguishers, fire hose and other apparatus required by the fire department, as well as the harness used upon the horses of the fire department, that said requisition shall not specify any particular maker, design, pattern or brand, unless said apparatus, hose or harness has undergone a competitive public test in the city and county of San Francisco on a date subsequent to the first day of August, 1893, and the advantages of the apparatus, hose or harness established over all competitors, to the satisfaction of the Board of Fire Commissioners and the fire department committee of the Board of Supervisors.
