Illinois Firemen s Annual Tournament
The annual tournament of the Illinois Firemen’s Association is to be held in connection with the Illinois State Fair at Springfield, Ill., on August 18, 19 and 20. According to Simon Kellerman, Jr., the tournament will open on Thursday, August 18, with a street parade in Springfield. Prizes will be awarded to the best appearing delegations, best decorated apparatus, etc. A fire department band contest will be conducted in the afternoon for prizes aggregating $225. Over $250,000 have been arranged for athletic contests, besides a number of medals for exceptional feats. On the state fair grounds, which cover about eighty acres, there will be erected a number of tents for the accommodation of visiting firemen. A feature including events for firemen in the annual state fair was tried out last year and was pronounced to be a great success.
