The Hartford (CT) Fire Department is set to release its report on the October 2014 death of veteranfirefighterKevin Bell.
TheHartford Courantreports that the State Police Fire and Explosion Investigative Unit is still investigating the fire, and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health has still not finished its firefighter line-of-duty death report on the incident.
According to theCourant‘s review of the report, Bell became entangled in furniture while operating at the fire. Additional conclusions from the report found there was a failure to search the room in which Bell was trapped and other firefighters did not hear a lieutenant call the Mayday.
Bell, 48, died from injuries sustained while operating at a residential structure fire on October 7 that resulted in injuries to several other firefighters.
Bell was discovered missing after all the firefighters were ordered out of the building for a head count and was unaccounted for in the house for more than eight minutes, according to theCourant. The paper said Bell’s death certificate states that Bell’s self-contained breathing apparatus ran out of air while he was fighting the fire, and listed cardiac hypertrophy as a contributing factor in the fatality.
