Greater New York Fire News.

Mutterings are heard among the insurance men as to the damage caused by water in the high-pressure district. They do not, however, speak out openly, as it was chiefly through their influence that the high-pressure system was established. Meanwhile, they have agreed to reduce the rates of fire insurance, which were advanced here shorty after the San Francisco fire, in the sections of the city protected by the new high-pressure system. The Brooklyn high-pressure area has been similarly favored, as have, also, the Kent avenue district and those of Williamsburg and Greenpoint, on account of the improved water supply.

The firemen’s Memorial fund has now reached over $51,000 and probably will not be greatly increased. The committee are now about to take the final steps to erect a suitable monument in one of the public parks, which shall duly commemorate all the firemen of the city who have died in the line of duty.
