Fresno May Require Sprinkler Installation

Fresno May Require Sprinkler Installation

An ordinance has been introduced at a meeting of the Fresno, Cal., city commission requiring the installations of automatic sprinkler systems in the basements of all buildings, except dwellings, in buildings which are altered or repaired to the extent of $2,000, and in the upper floors of structures of six classifications that may be erected, altered or repaired.

The proposed ordinance requires that the sprinkler system be supplied with water through mains of not less than four inches in diameter, except in basements having an area of less than 400 square feet, when the water lines may be reduced in two inches in diameter. Safety deposit vaults designed for storage of records, files and valuable documents which would be subject to material water damage in case of accidental discharge of the sprinklers, would be exempt from the sprinkler provisions.
