Fire Retardant Loading Facility For Aerial Tanker
A facility which greatly increases efficiency in loading aerial tankers for watershed fire fighting has been put into operation by the Los Angeles County Fire Department at its Lockheed Air Terminal base in the East San Fernando Valley.
At the airport facility Los Angeles County operated for the last three years, sacks of retardant had to be emptied into the mixer. County fire officials noted that the new demandtype system for storing and mixing fire retardant reduces manpower needed for the mixing operation from 10 men to one.
