Fire Plays Havoc in Washington.

About noon, last Monday, the fire department of Washington, D. C., was called upon to fight the most destructive fire that city has known in many years. It occurred in the mattress factory of Stumph and Bro., 631 to 635 Massachusetts Avenues There was some delay in sending an alarm and the flame spread so rapidly that by the time the engines arrived all hope of saving the building was gone. Four men jumped from the roof of the burning building to that of a low building adjoining, and were severely injured, one will probably die.
