FIRE LOSSES IN PHILADELPHIA.
这不是真的,火灾保险的人,that their losses in Philadelphia are less now than ever before. They quote the latest report of the fire patrol to the contrary. It compares the losses during the first six months of this year with those of 1905, and claims that its figures show that since January I this year the total loss has reached $1,398,088, which, according to the report, is $55,916 greater than the insurance loss during the whole of last year. Of this year s total, $382,969 was lost through the burning of building's insured, and $1,015,119. on the contents of the buildings burned. F'or the first six months of last vear (savs the report) the losses to the companies amounted to $715,213. which was made up of $250,273 loss to buildings and $464,940 loss to their contents. F'or the entire year 1905 companies were held liable for damage to buildings amounting to $410,575 and to contents, $931.597In the latter item alone the increase during the first six months of this year compared to that of all of last year amounted to $83,522. In what is known as the “congested district" the losses to insurance companies since January 1 this year amounted to $408,012. Of this total the loss to buildings was $68,142 and to their contents. $339,870. In all there were 133 fires in the district. F'or the same period last year, according to the fire patrol’s figures, the losses caused by the ninety-two fires in the six months totaled $193,422. This amount is divided into $40,158 loss on buildings and $153,244 on their contents. Comparing the figures of the first six months of this year with those of the same period a year ago. the former show an increase of $214,600. During the year 1905 there were 176 fires, causing losses to the companies aggregating $388,846, which included losses of $75.093 to buildings and $313-755 to their contents. These figures show that the losses in the '‘conflagration district" alone since the first of this year exceeded those of the entire year 1905 by $19,166.
A college of instruction in matters connected with fire service may be established in the borough of Richmond or elsewhere in Greater New York for the benefit of the city fire department.
