FIRE LOSS IN MARCH.

The fire loss in the United States and Canada during the month of March was $11,202,150—$1,300,000 more than in the corresponding month last year, and $854,450 less than in March, 1902, as will be seen from the accompanying comparative table of losses by fire during the first three months of 1902, 1903, 1904:

The fires during the month just past, at which the loss was $10,000 and upwards, were 23,3 in number: There were eighty that came under that head; $20.000 to $30,000. forty-five; $30,000 to $50,000, thirty-six; $50,000 to $75,000, thirty-one; $75,000 to $100.000, twenty; $100,000 to $200,000, seventeen; $200,000 to $350,000, four. Only seven fires approaching the conflagration stage took place last month. They were as follows: Conneaut, O., ferry steamer and other. $350,000; Oklahoma Ter., prairie fires, $275, 000; East St. Louis, Ill., implement warehouse, $225,000; Pittsburg, Pa., valve foctory; Manhattan borough, New York, express office buildings, $175,000.
