Fire Fighting Museum
A reconstruction of the Eagle Engine Company No. 13 firehouse of Manhattan’s early to mid-19th century period is one of the features of the fire fighting museum of the Home Insurance Company on the loth floor of its new 44-story building at 59 Maiden Lane in New York City. A wide variety of personal equipment, fire marks and models are displayed along with the major types of apparatus used in the early volunteer days. The museum’s library contains minute books, patent papers and an extensive photographic file.
The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. Large groups should ask for appointments by letter. Admission is free, and a narrated tour takes less than an hour.
