Fire Fighters Open Drive To Curb Unfriendly Acts

An emergency program to halt unfriendly acts towards fire fighters, and at the same time seek the support of all residents has been inaugurated by members of the Bridgeport, Conn., Fire Department. The theme of the drive is “The Fire Fighter Wants to Be Your Friend.” On numerous calls in that city, fire fighters have been struck by rocks and bottles, especially in public housing project areas. On one occasion a piece of cement block was hurled through the window of an assistant chief’s car.

At a recent press conference, Pumper Engineer Leonard R. Kerschner, president of Bridgeport Fire Fighters Union, Local 834, International Association of Fire Fighters, AFL-CIO, told reporters:
