FIRE COMMISSIONER RUSSELL REAPPOINTED.
Mayoi Quincy, of Boston, has reappointed Fire Commissioner Henry S. Russell to his old position as head of the fire department of that city. The appointment is a popular one, voiced by the press as fitting, and the Standard of Boston, in speaking for the insurance men of Boston says:
The mayor has been subjected to much political pressure, but all who have the highest interests of the city at heart will rejoice that it failed to secure the downfall of Boston’s efficient fire commissioner. In reappointing Mr. Russell, Mayor Quincy has evidently been influenced entirely by ihe commissioner’s fitness for the place. In this respect his judgment is not at fault. At no time has the Boston fire department reached a higher state of efficienc) than under Commmissioner Russell’s administration—a result which has been effected by a saving in actual cost to the city. Fire insurance men will be particularly gratified at the reappointment, as it was largely through their instrumentality that the old and cumbersome three-headed commission was abolished and that Mr. Russell was induced to assume the responsibilities of the office.
