We trust the vacation which Chief Croker has been granted, from August I to October I next, will not only prove very beneficial but that he may fully enjoy the immunity from the care of office to which he is so well entitled. His is a most arduous position, and the-constant pursuit of the onerous duties attaching to it will enable him to appreciate all the more fully his temporary freedom. It would be well if the leading cities of the country followed the example of New York and accorded their chiefs the well merited rest to which they are so justly entitled.
