FIRE ALARM AND POLICE TELEGRAPHS.

FIRE ALARM AND POLICE TELEGRAPHS.

Henry F. Blackwell has been appointed superintendent of the fire alarm telegraph bureau of Brooklyn, N.Y. The wires of the department will be laid underground before very long.

The comparatively new fire alarm system of Bayonne, N.J., on which $5,000 was originally expended has just been thoroughly overhauled and put in perfect order. New telephone connection, with full long distance equipment, has been provided between headquarters and the various fire company houses, each of which is supplied with an indicator. The superintendent has abandoned the large steam whistle attachment, located in the Standard Oil Works, after finding the same practically useless in connection with the electric alarm. It was found that this whistle could not be used as an auxiliary to the other signal. Two new steel bell-towers are being constructed, one on Bayonne engine property and the other on the Hudson engine site.
