Washington, D.C. – The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the United States Fire Administration (USFA), have announced 655 fire departments will receive grants in the sixth round of awards under the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. These departments will share a total of approximately $34 million. The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program is administered by the U.S. Fire Administration, a part of FEMA.
On September 15, 2002 FEMA and the USFA made their largest grant award announcement in the history of the program. This announcement exceeds the previous amounts both in number of awards and the amount of the financial package.
“This continues our commitment to deliver this money provided for by President Bush, and the United States Congress, for the nation’s fire departments and in support of their abilities to provide basic fire and rescue services,” this according to USFA Administrator R. David Paulison. “This is a significant investment in fire service delivery and the safety of the men and women who provide these critical fire protection services.”
A list of all current award recipients announced to date is posted on the USFA web site atwww.usfa.fema.gov. Future grant recipients will be listed as awards are made.
