One man was killed and many others, including severalfirefighters, were injured in a raging six alarm fire on East 93rd Street on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, New York, early Thursday morning October 27.
The fire may have started on a lower floor of the six story building but quickly spread to the upper floors, eventually burning through the roof.
Flames could be seen for miles around the city.
Firefighters from FDNY Rescue Company 1 and two first to arrive truck companies made a daring rescue of a man trapped on the fourth floor by lowering a firefighter on a rope who grabbed the man from a window and they were both lowered to safety.
The blaze began just before 3:30 a.m. and was brought under control around 6:30 a.m.
