The Fauquier County Department of Fire, Rescue and Emergency Management (DFREM), a combined career and volunteer fire and rescue system serving the citizens of Fauquier County, Virginia — and the Virginia Society Sons of American Revolution (SAR), a non-profit organization with purposes of patriotic, historical and educational pursuit — today announce that Tom Marable, President of the Fauquier County Volunteer Fire & Rescue Association (VFRA), is the recipient of the 2012 Virginia State Society Fire Safety Person of the Year award.
Annually, the SAR Virginia State Society selects one state-level finalist from among 26 chapter-level winners for the Fire Safety Person of the Year Award. As VFRA President Tom Marable was awarded the Fire Safety Commendation Medal in 2012 by the VA Society Sons of the American Revolution Culpeper Minute Men Chapter
– which covers Culpeper, Fauquier, Orange, and Rappahannock Counties – he was eligible for this state-level honor. On April 11, 2013, during the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors meeting, representatives from DFREM, VFRA and SAR were present as President Marable was awarded the 2012 Virginia State Society Fire Safety Person of the Year Award. This honor may be presented only once to an individual.
“We, descendants of Revolutionary Patriots, are pleased to recognize a modern patriot, Tom Marable, as the Virginia Fire Safety Person of the Year for 2012,” said Kent Webber, President of the Virginia Society of the Sons of the American Revolution.
