Ernest L. Maxim Dies

Ernest L. Maxim, 71, chairman of the board of the Maxim Motor Co., which recently consolidated with the Seagrave Corporation, died August 8 at St. Luke’s Hospital in his hometown of Middleboro, Mass. He had been ill for some time with a heart condition.

Mr. Maxim had been active since his youth in the plant founded by his late father, Carlton Maxim, starting as a bookkeeper in 1914. One of the pioneers in the field of motorized fire apparatus, he had served on the Fire Advisory Board of the Federal Government during World War II. Following the war he was instrumental in reorganizing the Fire Apparatus Manufacturers Association, serving a term as president and later as a director of the Association.
