Engineering Association of the South.

The April meeting of the Engineering Association of the South was held in Nashville. The following gentlemen were elected members : William W. Carson, professor of civil engineering University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Tenn.; Henry L. Collier, partner and engineer of the Lithonia granite quarries, Atlanta, Ga.; Chas. E. Hamlin, engineer and manager Southern office of the King Iron Bridge Company, Chattanooga, Tenn.; Benjamin M. Hall, member of firm of Hall Bros., civil and mining engineers, Atlanta, Ga.; Arthur G. King, practicing engineer, Atlanta, Ga.; Henry M. Robeit, lieutenant-colonel of engineers, U. S. A., in charge of Cumberland and Tennessee rivers improvement, Nashville, Tenn. The paper of the evening, entitled “ Municipal Engineering in Chattanooga," by James A. Fairleigh of Chattanooga, was then read by the secretary pro tem in the absence of the author. The paper presented the system of organization and control of the department of public works and engineering of the city, giving also the amounts ot appropriation and expenditures in the city during the past two years, together with the amount of asphalt, granite block brick, and block asphalt streets in use, with the cost of same and an exhibit of the mileage and cost of the sewers of the city, of which there are nine miles of brick and thirty-three miles of pipe sewers. The paper was discussed by Vice-president F. P. Clute of South Pittsburgh, Tenn.; Colonel H. M. Robert of Nashville, Tenn., and Hunter McDonald of Atlanta, Ga.
