Dover N. J., Buys New Combination

A new double tank Mack 500-gallon capacity triple combination pumper has just been delivered to the town of Dover, N. J. In a test conducted by John R. Healy, of the Schedule Rating Office, Newark, N. J., the apparatus delivered 531 gallons per minute at 127.6 pounds net pressure. The requirements were 500 gallons per minute at 120 pounds net pressure. The Dover fire department being called upon to protect certain districts which are not supplied with water, the two 40-gallon chemical tanks of the pumper will prove of great use in protecting these hazardous points. Another part of the equipment is a 4 1/2 x 2 1/2 x 2 1/2-inch hydrant to engine siamese with two 10-foot lengths of 2 1/2-inch hard suction hose. This permits the use of both 2 1/2-inch butts on the hydrant. There are also supplied two 10-foot lengths of 4 1/2-inch hard suction hose for the purpose of drafting in case of necessity. The hose body has a capacity of from 1,500 to 1,800 feet of 2 1/2-inch hose. The usual equipment of such an apparatus is supplied, including two gas masks, Pyrene extinguisher, two Little Giant play pipes, two Larkin shutoff nozzles with tips ranging from 3/4-inch to l 1/4-inch, 24-foot extension ladder, and 12-foot roof ladder. The front end of chassis is equipped with two towing hooks and rear end with spring draw bar. The apparatus, which is illustrated herewith, is mounted on pneumatic tires and capable of making 40 miles per hour.
