DANGERS OF DENATURED ALCOHOL.
Having urged the use of denatured alcohol in households, for heating and cooking, instead of gasoline. State Fire Marshal Creamer has issued a bulletin warning the people against the danger of the new fuel as a poison. Denatured alcohol is composed of ten parts pure grain alcohol, one part wood alcohol and one-fifteenth part benzine. He shows that four ounces of wood alcohol, or eight ounces of grain alcohol will kill, and, therefore, the mixture known as denatured alcohol must be dangerous. He suggests that the State might require denatured alcohol to be kept in peculiar containers, colored green with onahne, to bear the skull and crossbones, or other usual poison caution. Wood alcohol has a serious effect on the optic nerve and very frequently produces complete blindness.
