City Engineers Want More Pay

City Engineers Want More Pay

A meeting is planned which will be attended by municipal engineers from five hundred cities in the United States and Canada for furthering a movement to increase the salaries of the so-called “white collar” worker. The meeting will be held under the auspices of the Association of Engineers of New York, and delegates will attend from some of the larger cities as Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, Detroit and Toronto.

New York is attempting to have all the department heads receive the same salary. The district attorney of the Bronx borough receives a yearly salary of $15,000 a year while the borough’s chief engineer is paid $7,000. It was pointed out that some of the newer cities as Detroit and San Francisco paid their engineers more than the cities which were founded earlier in history. The chief engineer of San Francisco is paid $17,500 while the chief engineer of New York is paid $10,000.
