CHICAGO FIRE DEPARTMENT—FIFTH BATTALION.
The Fifth Batlallion is composed of Engine Companies Nos. 5. 6. 7, 18, Hook and Ladder Companies Nos. 2 and 5; Chemical Company No. 1, and one Supply Wagon. The Battalion is under the command of Chief M. W. Conway, with headquarters at the house of Hook and Ladder No. 5. Richard Stringer, Driver of Supply No. 1, joined the Department as a Driver on the "Little Giant" No. 6, in 1859, and remained in tbat position till transferred, in 1871, to Engine Company No. 8, and in 1874, he was given his present position.
