Chicago Drainage Not Effective

The question of better drainage in Chicago has again been forced to the front owing to the report of the Chicago Real Estate Board Drainage Committee presented at the monthly meeting of the board in January. The committee which consists of John W. Alvord, Henry H. Walker and Hyde W. Perce, has gone carefully into the matter and its recommendations will no doubt impress the people of Chicago with the importance of immediate action to remedy the evil which the committee reports as existing. The report states that “the condition of the water supply during the past few months has been such as to impress nearly everybody with the fact that they are not obtaining in their households water that clarity and cleanliness that are desirable and necessary in a great city of the size of Chicago.” The report of the engineer of the sanitary district also points out “that the present drainage flow is insufficient in amount to purify effectively the sewage which now reaches it, and that by a series of chemical tests the shown
