Changes at Oakland
Chief Elliott Whitehead, newly appointed chief of Oakland, Cal., plans numerous changes in the department. For the sake of protection the military droop visor has been adopted in place of the straight visor, and the cap has been substituted for the hat formerly worn by the chief. The men were ordered out one day recently to use the drill tower. Chief Whitehead has laid before the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety F. F. Jackson plans for a number of changes in the department, including the shifting of a number of firemen.
