CATV Used for Alerting System
The CATV system is used to alert Clifton Forge, Va., Rescue Squad members, who receive calls through commercial broadcast FM receivers tapped into the television cable in their homes. Cablevision of Virginia installed a 10-watt audio amplifier and microphone for the dispatcher at the courthouse. A message goes by telephone line from the amplifier to Cablevisions antenna site. Here a Jerrold FM modulator sends the message over the CATV system on a predetermined frequency. FM taps were installed in squad members’ homes by Cablevision without charge.
