In “Drones and the Fire Service” (Fire Engineering, October 2016), I reviewed the process for obtaining a blanket area certificate of authorization (COA) for public aircraft operations (PAO). Since then, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulation 14 CFR Part 107 has gone into effect; it is mainly geared toward commercial drone operations for hire or compensation.
