Arrest in Montebello (CA) Wildfire

A wildfire Sunday afternoon that grew to 200 acres in Montebello, California, prompted evacuations and the closure of an oil field, according to a report.

The Los Angeles Timesreported that a homeless man was arrested on suspicion of setting the fire.

Dan Amador, deputy chief of the Montebello Fire Department, told theTimesthat the fast-moving fire, which was reported about 1:15 p.m., jumped across a road and spread into the Montebello Hills and onto the nearby PXP oil field. Other departments assisted Montebello battle the fire, dubbed the Lincoln Fire, and no structures were harmed.

The city of Montebello is located in Los Angeles County. According to a release yesterday from Cal Fire, more than 14,000firefightersare battling 18 activewildland firesaross the state of California, with temperatures again reaching the triple digits in many areas.
