Another Sprinklered Loss.

Another Sprinklered Loss.

The fourth serious sprinklered loss in Chicago within a month occurred last week in the plant of the Minneapolis Desk Company, at Minneapolis. Fire started in a pile of finished lumber about midnight Wednesday, caused by spontaneous combustion in a pair of greasy overalls carelessly thrown down. Four sprinklers opened and apparently extinguished the fire. The fire department shut off the gate valve of the sprinkler system and left the building without a watchman. An hour later another fire started, apparently from embers which had not been extinguished, and caused serious damage on the second, third and fourth floors. All the sprinkler heads on the second and third floors and 85 on the fourth floor opened, but as the gate valve was shut off, the water supply was soon ex hausted.

Morris, Cal., is to have a water system, preliminary plans having been started.
