AMERICAN FILTRATION.

AMERICAN FILTRATION.

This system of filtration is steadily extending not only in the United States, but in foreign places, where effective and easily operated filter plants are required. The following list obtained from the New York Continental Jewell Filtration company gives the places where purifying plants are to be installed, according to recent orders received by the company: His Majesty the Khedive of Egypt, a system of Jewell gravity filtration for the royal palaces at Mantaya, near Alexandria, Egypt; the Royal Hungarian Railroad company, Klausenberg, Hungary; John J. Campbell, Third and Cumberland streets, Philadelphia, Pa.; Mutual Life Insurance company, Cape Town. South Africa; Barrett Manufacturing company, Thirty-sixth street and Gray Ferry road, Philadelphia, Pa.; Garrick Hotel and Restaurant company, Annex, 108 South Thirteenth street. Philadelphia, Pa.; one for the Cornell university, Ithaca, N. Y., where there has been such a scourge of typhoid; Columbus Waterworks company. Columbus, Ga., a Jewell gravity filter plant, for the city water supply, 2,000,000 gallons daily capacity. These water-purifying plants remove the typhoid germs from the water —making it perfectly safe for potable uses.

At Oakland. Cal., the salt water mains of the yards are being extended to the material stores on the east side of the Southern Pacific property, as a safeguard against fire. The planing mill and several other buildings are protected by salt water hydrants, a pumping plant having been installed.
