A Purcell Professorship.

In a recent issue of a Dublin, Ireland, paper announcement is made of the election of Mr. Pierce F. Purcell, M.A., M.A.I. to the professorship of civil engineering in the National University of that country. Mr. Purcell is a son of Captain Purcell, the well-known chief of the Dublin fire brigade. He graduated at Trinity College, where he obtained a Senior Moderatorship, and read a very distinguished course. He distinguished dimself in all the examinations for the Engineering degree. For some time past he has been chief engineer to the London County Council, and during his connection with the Council he had charge of the Holborn to the Strand Improvement Scheme, and was also in charge of other improvement works in connection with the Council. Salary, $3,000.
