A Now Stand-Pipe for Watering Carts.

The improved stand-pipe for sprinkling carts shown in the accompanying cut, has been designed by the Hersey Manufacturing Company of South Boston, Mass., for use where it is wished to meter the water used in sprinkling the streets. It is made in two pieces, a base, including the molded portion shown, and a tapering column. Through this casting runs the supply-pipe and connected with this pipe at the top of the post is placed a meter, forming an elbow for the extension pipe. This arrangement allows the meter to be easily read, and permits of its being removed during the winter when no street sprinkling is being done and it would be exposed to the danger of freezing. The cost is also less than when the meter is placed below the ground. The useful and practical features of the device are self evident, and it will be noticed that it is also neat and light in appearance in marked contrast with many of the contrivances used for the same purpose to be seen in our cities.
