A NEW MANUAL FOR STREET LIGHTING COMMITTEES.
Municipal Lighting is the title of a hand book by Fred H. Whipple of Detroit, which contains more information of value to city officials contemplating the adoption of an electric system of street lighting than any other publication which we know. Mr. Whipple does not meddle with the scientific questions which surround the subject of electric lighting, and uses few technical terms. He shows the layman the difference in expense between the contract system and the ownership of a plant, tells how to buy the latter, gives a list of electrically lighted American cities, the systems in use in each and their cost, and enters into a detailed description of all the principal systems of arc and electric lighting from which choice may be made. Considerable space is also devoted to the subject of underground lines. Mr. Whipple has compiled a very useful little work, which should be read by every layman wishing to know something of the subject. The book is a handsome octavo of over 225 pages, with flexible Russia leather covers.
