A 40-year-old firefighter in Pennsylvania passed away after falling ill, according toa report from the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA).
On Monday, December 2, 2019, at approximately 2000hrs., Captain Michael Christopher Malinowski with the Morton-Rutledge Volunteer Fire Company Station 13 responded to a call of reported downed wires and trees. After returning to the station, he complained to his fellow firefighters that he wasn’t feeling well. The next day, Tuesday, December 3, 2019, while at work, he became ill and was immediately taken to the hospital where he passed away a short time later from an apparent heart attack.
Captain Malinowski had 24 years of service. He is the 56 firefighter fatality reported by the USFA thus far in 2019.
