Search Warrants Served in Arson that Killed Michigan Firefighter

Michigan State Police served three search warrants Friday related to the investigation of a fire that claimed the life of Wayne-Westland firefighter Brian Woehlke in May, reports The Detroit News.

Troopers arrested one person on an unrelated misdemeanor charge while executing the search warrants and collecting evidence, according to a State Police news release.

Last month, the Wayne-Westland Fire Department ruled the fire at Marvaso’s Restaurant and the Electric Stick Pool Hall in Westland an arson. That sparked a homicide investigation into Woehlke’s death.

Woehlke, 29, of Dearborn, died May 8 after being pinned under a fallen roof at the strip mall that contained the businesses.
State Police spokesman Michael Shaw said he could not comment on the nature of the warrants.

Woehlke joined the Fire Department in July 2012. He was married with a daughter, Ava, who was 13 months old at the time of his death.

He was the first Westland firefighter to be killed in the line of duty.
