Firefighters Nearly Trapped in Collapse at Queens (NY) 4-Alarm Fire

Several firefighters suffered moderate injuries while battling a four-alarm fire in Queens, New York on Monday. More than 100 firefighters responded to the early-morning commercial fire.

FDNY officials told NBC New York that the fire began in a concealed space between the ceiling and the roof, making it hard for firefighters to detect and access the fire immediately.

At one point, eight or nine firefighters entered the retail structure, but the ceiling collapsed, almost trapping them. Fire companies then switched to a defensive mode.

One civilian was also injured in the fire. See photos from and get additional information on the incidentHERE.
