According to a report fromNBC4, one person died in a commercial building fire in the Central-Alameda area of South Los Angeles shortly after midnight on Tuesday.
Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACFD) firefighters responded to the 1800 block of 57th Street near Alba Street and east of Long Beach Boulevard. On arrival, they saw heavy fire showing from the one-story structure, according to LACFD’s Nicholas Prange.
Flames from the building threatened nearby structures on three sides and firefighters “strategically positioned themselves to defend the surrounding buildings and deluged the well-involved structure from the exterior,” Prange said.
It took 67 LACFD firefighters to extinguish the flames, knocking it down at around 1:10 a.m., Prange said. The fire’s cause is under investigation, as is the victim’s death.
