Nine Firefighters, Two Children Hurt in Bronx Fire

Parkchester (NY) – Firefighters fought a smoky fifth-alarm fire burning through two multifamily homes in the Bronx early Wednesday.

The flames broke out between homes at 1509 and 1507 Commonwealth Avenue in the Parkchester section just before 3 a.m.

More than 250 firefighters from 60 units were also forced to fight the intense heat, fire, and smoke.

No serious injuries were reported among the residents, who were forced to flee their homes, but a seven-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl who lived at the 1507 residence were treated for smoke inhalation at Jacobi Hospital.
