Manheim Township Fire Rescue has opened a fourth fire station.
The new fire station, Richmond Square Fire Rescue, station 202, opened last month at 600 Richmond Drive in Richmond Square in Manheim Township.
The station serves the northwest/western parts of the township. The primary response area is north of Granite Run Drive to the township border, north of Erb’s Quarry Road, and between the western township boundary east to roughly Blossom Hill and Weaver Road.
The new station is expected to reduce response time in that area.
“The opening of the Richmond Square Fire Rescue station will provide a significant increase in our ability to provide more timely service to this area of Manheim Township,” Rick Kane, Manheim Township manager said in a news release. “With lower response times we expect a better outcome for residents when they are having a fire or medical emergency.”
The station will operate 24 hours a day from one single engine with shifts of three firefighter units.
The new fire station was previously a commercial property that had been vacant for almost three years.
“The building itself was the appropriate size, and its location allowed for the single apparatus bay to be added to the existing footprint without major construction work,” the township said in a news release.
An official open house is tentatively planned for the spring.
