There are several new details in a Monroe house fire from Sunday that killed three people. The victims are 61-year-old Charles Harris, 61-year-old Sam Myles and Jerry Johnson who investigators say is around the same age, reports knoe.com.
Six people were home when the fire started and only three people got out.The wife of one of the victims, Florence Harris says she just had breakfast with Charles and was next door when the fire started.
“I always ask god to let it be me first because I didn’t think I could deal with him not being here but god did it how he wanted to do it and at least I had a good time with him before his last moments in life,”says Florence.
State Fire Marshall Brant Thompson says they believe the fire started in Charles’ bedroom where they found about ten-thousand dollars and drug paraphernalia.
“I know from working and being with him that long I figured I knew how to get in the house to get to him because he was in a wheelchair he couldn’t walk so when finally the fire trucks came they gave up,” says Florence.
Thompson says this house was known for drug activity and burglar bars were set up in the home and may have stopped him and the other two men from getting out.
“He had them there for the times when he was there by himself the door could be opened without anybody coming in and bothering him cause like I told you he was in a wheelchair but the key is what we are discovering now, it seems like the key to the bar door was in the bar door,” Florence.
