Large NJ Blaze Leaves 12 Families Homeless

Twelve families have been left homeless from a five-alarm fire in Elizabeth (NJ). The fire destroyed two 2.5-story homes and damaged a three-story building.

Fire companies from nine municipalities battled the blaze which started at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, reports The Newark Star-Ledger (http://bit.ly/JdpUVU). The fire was under control by 10:45 p.m.

Two firefighters had minor strains and have been treated and released. Two residents suffered from smoke inhalation.

Buildings on the block were evacuated, but residents were allowed to return to these homes today. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
