FL Firefighter Hurt at House Fire; Family Escapes

A firefighters injured his back and was taken to the hospital at a fire that burned a family’s house in Jacksonville, Florida.

TheFlorida Times-Unionreports (http://bit.ly/RO3nGO) that the two youngest members of the family, ages three and four, alerted their mother to the fire on the first floor of the two-story home. Four family members altogether escaped the flames, although a pet ferret was reportedly killed in the fire.

A firefighter hurt his back fighting the fire and was taken to a hospital, but the injury was not believed to be serious, said Chief Andy White of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department. White said the house just off the corner of Phoenix and West 14th Street was engulfed in flames, but firefighters arrived quickly after it was reported at 2:12 p.m. The house would have burned to the ground if firefighters had not been able to arrive quickly.
