Firefighters Aid in Rescue of OH Woman

Firefighters helped rescue a woman from a burning home Monday night in Scioto County, Ohio. A flashover occurred during the incident, complicating efforts to rescue the victim.

The fire began around 10:30 p.m., according to a report from NBC4i.com (http://bit.ly/rvzt0h).

A passerby reportedly noticed the fire and alerted a neighbor, who rushed to the house to try and rescue the victim, a 61-year-old female. The neighbor was unable to access the victim because of the flames and smoke.

At the same time as the neighbor was being forced out, a team of deputies arrived on scene. Two deputies and the neighbor tried to rescue the woman through a bedroom window on the front porch; were able to get her partially through the window when a flashover occurred in the living room, forcing the rescuers to retreat once again

Firefighters then arrived and began attacking the fire and helping complete the rescue. The victim was transported, treated for smoke inhalation and thermal burns, and released. One deputy was treated for thermal burns and another was treated for a laceration, while the neighbor was treated for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire was determined to be unattended cooking.
