Firefighters contended with bitter cold as they battles an intense commercial fire early Thursday in Elizabeth, New Jersey.
The fire, which broke out just after 5 a.m., destroyed six businesses, according to aStar-Ledgerreport (http://bit.ly/1fAzbsi).
The roof that the businesses share collapsed 15 minutes after firefighters arrived, suggesting the fire had been burning for some time. Twelveengine companiesand 125 firefighters responded to the fire, which went to five alarms.

It took about two-and-a-half hours to bring the massive fire under control and two firefighters suffered minor back injuries after slipping on ice.
