An event to honor 216 Minnesota firefighters who died in the line of duty was held on Sunday, reports kstp.com.
The families of nine firefighters who died were honored at the event, which took place at the Fallen Firefighters Memorial site at the Capitol.
The event ran from noon to 3:30 p.m., with a service at 2 p.m.
Meanwhile, Gov. Mark Dayton ordered state and federal flags to be lowered to half-staff on Sunday, in honor of the firefighters killed or disabled while in the line of duty. Flags will remain lowered from sunrise to sunset, in tribute to Minnesota Fallen Firefighters Memorial Day.
