Crews Knock Down Three-Alarm San Bernardino (CA) Mall Fire

The fire caused damage to units on the east side of the mall, said Eric Sherwin, spokesman for the San Bernardino County Fire Department. It was unknown whether the fire involved a single or multiple areas of ignition, Sherwin said.

The fire was reported at 6:48 p.m. at 295 Carousel Mall, according to the Fire Department. Crews initially conducted searches through the shuttered mall to determine the source of what was producing smoke, the Fire Department said.

No injuries were reported in the fire, Sherwin said.

The fire’s cause was under investigation, authorities said.

The abandoned mall has been subject to many small fires recently, with many being set by vandals and transients who break into the boarded-up structure. The mall was boarded up in 2017 a few months after it was closed.

The adjacentHistoric Enterprise Buildingwas not involved or damaged in the fire, despite some concerns from local residents, according to Enterprise Building’s management team.
